Antilla
Barcelona disco-salsa opened its doors in June 1993 with a significant
affluence of public which it still maintains. It's considered one
of the most important Latin disco in the country. Relevant features
are the live music, the parties and the dance school.
The
latin discos have proliferated in the city. Latin is fashionable
and every time there are more native of these countries that have
chosen Barcelona to live. Though there are many places of salsa,
not all of them are equals; Antilla is one of the oldest and the
one that enjoys more prestige.
Antilla
Barcelona isn't a conventional discotheque; every day special
events are celebrated in the disco, such as exhibitions of art,
literary contests, performances and parties. Also, you can learn
how to dance salsa, thanks to the school of dance of the own place.
The
disco's managers, headed by Public Relations Enrique, always ready
to report on the last events of the disco. The place offers the
best and more entertaining of the Caribbean. This is where was
celebrated the Record Guinnes of the longest "son",
a tremendous rumba that lasted 24 hours in 1994, and this show
that is still in the memory of all the attendees.
One
of the successes of the local are the performances and live music.
All the groups of Latin music of the city and internationally
famous people performed in the local, such as N.G. The Band, Paulito
and his Elite, Barrio Chino, Lucrecia, Gema 4, The Estudiantina
Invasora, and the Typical Oriental Cuban, among great others.
Antilla edits its own magazine of information, Antilla News, and
organizes two annual contests, one of stories and other one of
photography, both under the motto of the music and the Caribbean
culture. Antilla celebrated "las Descargas de Latin Jazz",
an event that, in a few months, has become an important event
for the musicians and the music lovers.
Another
characteristic that converts Antilla in an emblematic latin disco
is its dance school. Prestigious teachers give classes where one
can learn salsa, chachachá, the spectacular "rueda
de casino" wheel of casino (dance that is realized in group),
tango or milonga (kind of dance). The School caters for different
levels: initiation, average and top level; by the way the pupils
will not only attend classes, they will also take part in the
exhibitions, in the contests and in the Ballet Antilla.
Antilla possesses a few ideal facilities divided in two floors
for the diverse groups, and it's located in the centre of the
city, which makes it accessible for anybody interested in registering
at the school.
If
you are a lover of the Latin world this it is the place indicated
to leave free rein to your passions and, besides to know new people.
You will enjoy the dance and the salsa!!
