To know
the beer's world, their process and elaboration, and finally to
be able to enjoy a good completely natural beer, while you check
how it is produced, this is possible thanks to places so curious
as The Cervesera Artesana. It's the only local that elaborates beer
in Barcelona and it also offers as much as 60 types of imported
beer.
There
is only an establishment in Barcelona and practically in all of
Spain. It's a bar specialized in beer that has their own elaboration
process, besides having an original and personal design that combines
old and modern concepts at the same time. It's original and surprising
because the visitors can admire the small beer's factory that
there is inside the local and, if they want to, learn the fascinating
brewing process.
La
Cervesera Artesana uses different ingredients to obtain beer;
water, malt (directly imported from England), hops (it's plants
that gives it the bitter flavour and it's brought from USA.) and
yeast of beer. In the process, we find different machines that
mix the ingredients, the beer is fermented and, finally, it's
matured.
One
of the owners of the brewery explains this process. Water is heated
and treated to obtain liquor (brewers don't like the word water)
in the Hot Liquor Tank. Hot liquor is mixed with the grist (selection
of malted barley) to specific temperature, according to the beer
design.
After a natural filtration through the husks the wort is pumped
to the cooper and finally,
when the beer is almost fermented it's transferred to the conditioning
tank and matures and is conditioned.
The
result is a beer, called IPA (Iberian Pale Ale) wich is more bitter
to the one that we are accustomed to drink but it is tasty and
natural with a darker colour. Although it offers 60 different
types of beer, we recommend you taste the beer that the bar elaborates.
It's worthwhile.
La
Cervesera Artesana is a local where we find "tapas"
to eat while we drink beer, an extense malt whisky list and samples
of art that are changed every certain time. There is live music
every Monday and Thursday nights. The local is always full on
Fridays and Saturdays and discjockeys come to put on music.
Monday
is the "beer's day" and there is 2x1 offer if one requests
their self-made beer. One of the most interesting proposals in
the tavern is courses to learn the beer elaboration, as well as
tasting to know how to differentiate different types of beer.
