May will be a month full of flamenco in Barcelona. For this music lovers or for that tourists thirsty of Spanish native folklore, Barcelona has planned a bright and varied agenda of shows. Although far away from Andalucia, the Catalan capital offers two flamenco festivals in a row during the second two weeks of May. That means turn the city into an important music focus.
Between the 19th and the 21st of May in the district of Nou Barris, the Festival Flamenco titled “Alma” will be celebrated. This festival wants to pay tribute to the femme figue in the flamenco world. The performers will be the Grenadian bailaora Fuensanta ‘La Moneta’, cantaoras such as Carmen Linares, Montse Cortés and Gemma Caballero, the bailaora Ángeles Gabaldón and María del Mar Fuentes with her show ‘Con-traste’.
A few days later, from the 24th to the 28th of May it will take place the presentation of the Festival Flamenco of Ciutat Vella named “Simientes”, in recognition of the importance of the guitarist Rafael Riqueni for his work. This festival is organizad by the Taller de Musics in order to mix a wade range of consolidated artist with other young ones. The goal is presenting a balanced program emphasizing equally the flamenco singing, the guitar and the de dance every day. Guitarist as Rafael Riqueni, Juan Carlos Romero and Jerónimo Maya are going to play, the same than the singers Antonio Velez 'Pitingo', 'El Vareta', Las Molinas and Encarna Anillo and the dancers Andrés Marín, Andrés Peña and the la Somorrostro dance company.
