Barcelona Bus Turístic: the ROUTES

There are 2 different routes, NORTH and SOUTH.

You can change from one route to another. There are 3 stops connecting both routes to make it easier !!! Plaça de Catalunya; Passeig de Gràcia-La Pedrera and Francesc Macia Diagonal:

NORTH ROUTE

Plaça de Catalunya - That's right the city center and also the connection point for all the city metropolitan communications. The square is the departing point of the most important streets and avenues such as the Rambla, Rambla Catalunya, Passeig de Gràcia…It was built in 1927, works undertaken by Francesc Nebot. The surface is 50.000 m2, comparable to other big squares like San Pietro di Roma. The most appreciated characteristics are the gardens and fountains. But the stairs and sculptures such as that of Francesc Macià are remarkable .

Casa Batlló-Fundació Antoni Tàpies

Passeig de Gràcia - La Pedrera - That's the main avenue of the Eixample, the commercial and financial center. The main building of the Passeig de Gràcia is La Pedrera (Casa Milà), which is the most important modernistic building from Antoni Gaudí. UNESCO has declared La Pedrera as a World Heritage.

Sagrada Família - That's the symbol of the modernistic architecture of Barcelona. That's also the representative symbol of the city around the world.
In this temple we can appreciate all the modernism characteristics at its best.
The best way for the visitor to get to know Gaudi's project is to visit the Sagrada Familia museum, which holds lots of graphic material about the temple design.

Gràcia

Park Güell - Eusebi Güell asked Antoni Gaudí to take care of the construction of a residential park, next to his property. This remarkable place offers lots of creative and many coloured details. This park is unique in the world. It receives millions of visitors from all around the world. It was declared World Heritage in 1984 by the UNESCO.

Tramvia Blau - Tibidabo - Tramvia Blau is a tramway that will led you to Tibidabo, the oldest amusement park in Barcelona (1899). Nowadays it occupies 70.000m2, offering about 30 attractions. Next to the park is the Sagrat Cor Church, modernistic temple neogothic inspired. The temple was started in 1902 by Enric Sagnier and works lasted 60 years. Frederic Marés was the author of the monumental sculpture located at the top of the church. Other interest attractions at the Tibidabo are La Torre de Collserola and The Science Museum.

Sarrià

Monestir de Pedralbes - Col·lecció Thyssen - Located at Pedralbes Avenue, next to the Creu de Pedralbes. The church and the monastery were built in the XIV century and they are totally gothic. The compound is formed by a backyard, where we can find a beautiful garden and a renaissance draw-well.
Inside the building, there is the monastery museum, with enshrine medieval painting and sculpture collections. There is also an important Thyssen collection, which is one of the most complete exhibitions in the world, acquired by the Spanish State.

Pavellons Finca Güell

Palau Reial - That's a big palace in a classical style, which was subsidized by Gaudi's patron: Eusebi Güell. It was used for the first time by the King Alfons XIII, on 1926. Nowadays, the palace is used as the Ornamental Art Museum, which shows old furniture…(original ceramics from Miró and Picasso), porcelains, enamels, old clocks….

Futbol Club Barcelona - That's the biggest football ground in Europe. It can hold 100.000 spectators. Inside is the FC Museum, one of the most visited in the city, which shows the past and the present of the club, and where we can see the trophies, photos, documents, and a lot of things that remind us the 100 years of the club.

Francesc Macià-Diagonal - This square has the name of the first president of the Generalitat de Catalunya. At this point and along all the Diagonal we can find the business centre with a lot of offices, nice shops…

MACBA-CCCB - Located in the Raval neighbourhood. Macba is the modern art museum of Barcelona and it was inaugurated on 1995. That's a cultural service which aims at bringing together art and people. A tool of investigation and diffusion. The museum building was started in 1990 by the north-american architect Richard Meier. He finished it in the spring of 1995.
The museum shows temporal and permanent exhibitions based on the modern art.
CCCB The Contemporary Culture Center of Barcelona is dedicated to investigation and diffusion of the urban culture. It holds exhibitions and other multicultural activities.

Estació de Sants - You'll find it at Plaça dels Paísos Catalans. Trains to surrounding towns, regional destinations as well as the French border. Next to it is Parc de l'Espanya Industrial, with its small lake surrounded with stairs, bridges, and its watch towers, as well as Sant Jordi's iron dragon (by Andrés Nagel). Next to it is a park dedicated to Joan Miró, with the famous and colourful sculpture la "Dona i l'ocell" (the Lady and the Bird)

Creu coberta

Plaça d'Espanya - 1929 International Exhibition changed the City, and example of such a change are Plaça d'Espanya, with its twin Venetian towers, Avenida de María Cristina (rebuilt in 1985); Palau de Victoria Eugenia i Alfons XIII (1923); Mies van der Rohe's building or Palau Nacional, where MNAC is found (Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya). At Av. María Cristina are the trade fair premises (Fira de Barcelona) and Palau d'Exposicions i Congressos where all year round are held important fairs and congresses. Remarkable are, at the end of the avenue, the Montjuïc fountains, which offer on special occasions a water, light and music show quite unique.

CaixaFòrum-Mies van der Rohe

Poble Espanyol - It was built for the International Exhibition on 1929. The aim of this building it was to show the best examples of popular spanish arquitecture. That's a work from Francesc Folguerola and Ramon Raventós and that's surrounded by a replica of the Avila walls. There are two musuems in the park: The musuem of Arts, industry and popular traditions and the museum of graphic arts. The first one has an ethnologic value and the second one shows us the graphic enginery.

Anella Olímpica-MNAC - It has built for the olimpic games on 1992. Next to that there are also a set of sports instalations; palau Sant Jordi, work from the japanes arquitect Arata Isozaki, which is a multifunctional pavillion where a lot of different activities can be hold. It has a capacity of 17000 people. We can also distinguish the Picornell pools, built on 1970, and reformed later for the Olimpic Games. The Art Nacional Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) holds very important paint and sculpture collections of the medieval, renaissance, and baroque periods. We can distinguish the romanic and gothic paintings.

Fundació Joan Miró - It connects with the Avenue Miramar cable car and it takes you to the Montjuic Castle. Where you can apreciate a good panoramic view of the city and of the harbour. The Miro fundation was inaugurated on 1975 and it offers one of the best collections of the contemprany art of the world, a part of the permanent exhibition of Miró. The musuem was enlarged on 1988 by the arquitect Jaume Freixa. The fundation also provides rooms appropiated for culturals activities, conferences, congresses, cinema, music, theatre….

Funicular de Montjuïc

Miramar-Jardins Costa i Llobera - At the avenue Marques de Comillas there is this institution dedicated to the study of the botany and ecology. It has a library specialzed on that theme. We can find more than 600.000 plants from all around the world and more than thousand species are hold on its botanic garden. Mirarmar has been of the best romantic and specials places for viewing Barcelona.

World Trade Center

Colón - La Rambla: That's a monument dedicated to a Cristobal Colon. That's at the end of the Rambles and it longs 51,30m. That's a work from Gaietà Buigas I Monravà, built on 1886. A lift connect the base of the monument with the superior viewer, where we can appreciate great viewers. Right in front of Colon there are the "Golondrines" which you can take them for going round the Olimpic Port and the harbour. Next to the Colon statue there is the Royals Drassanes were nowadays there is the Maritim Museum of Barcelona.

Port Vell - After colon the Rambles goes on until Moll de Espanya (Port Vell), since 1995 it offers an exceptional offer, The Imax with its cinema screens (imax, 3D and Omnimax), The Aquarium, the biggest on of Europe, and the commercial center Maremàgnum with its shops, restaurants, musicals bars, terraces, and a lot of night life. There is also the history musuem of Catalonia which presents an interactive itinerary of the Catalonia history. In this stop you will be able to take the Catamaran Orsom for relaxing and taking the sun.

Museu d´Història de Catalunya

Port Olímpic - One of the modernest areas with more appeal. Its offer are the restaurants and the terraces, on summer time we can also enjoy the beaches. It was built for the olimpic games on 1992. El "peix d'or" is a work from Frank O. Ghery. VILA OLIMPICA.- For the Olimpic Games a new 'exiample' was built by the sea. Firstly it was used to accommodate the sportmen of the Games, after that it has become the new quarter of Barcelona. That's a work from Mackay, Martorell, Bohigues and Puigdomènech and occupies a surface of 150 hec. 100 of them are green and equipment areas.

Platja Bogatell

Parc de la Ciutadella - Zoo - The park was built for the exhibiton of 1888. Before was used as a military complex, la Ciutadella, which was demolished between 1869-1888. We find sculptures, a lake, and different kind of ponds and fountains with an important arquitectonic interest. The park also holds public institutions as the Catalunya Parlament, three museums and the zoo. The zoo takes almost the half part of the park, where the most appreciate animal is the 'Floquet de Neu', the only albino gorilla known in the world.

Pla de Palau - The Pla de Palau is chaired by the warehouse (1380-1392), next to that there is the street called Montcada which on 1974 was declared historic and artistic monumental set by the State and the Council. There is also the Picasso museum where you can appreciate the youngest works from the artist.

Barri Gòtic - The gothic quarter is the medieval centre. It is where all the most important public buildings are located: El Palau de la Generalitat, the council, the cathedral, and the Royal Palace. Barcelona has a roman origin and despite of all the transformations suffered during the middle ages, we can find still some remains of its origin. That's the quarter with more history of the city, but it is also the comercial center where the newest shops are mixed with the smallest and oldest commerces .
