The
aim of this construction is to display the best examples of Spanish
popular and noble architecture in a small space.
It was idea of the architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch and Francesc
Folguera and Ramon Reventós designed it. A replica of the walls
of Ávila surrounds the enclosure, a clear example of the likeness
of these walls being the San Vicente gate, which is the main access
to the enclosure.
There
is also a reproduction of the Town Hall of Valderrobles (Teruel)
and a perimeter formed by buildings which are representative of
different towns in Spain.
Inside of the Poble Espanyol there is the Community of the Artisans where more than 40 craftsmen make their work of embroidered, glass, puppets, pottery, toys etc…
